Vocational training has a long history in Fribourg. It began in 1896 with the founding of the vocational school and 12 stone mason and mechanic apprentices. Some 120 years later, in 2015, the number of students at HTA-FR reached the 1000 mark for the first time.
The continuous growth in the number of students is gratifying and shows that the range of courses offered is attractive and up to date. In 2020, this will be supplemented by a new degree program to keep pace with the technological challenges of the future.

Responsibility
As a public institution, the HTA-FR is accountable. Only a reliable sense of responsibility justifies the claim to freedom in research and teaching.
Trust
The HTA-FR cultivates a culture of critical and benevolent dialogue, which forms the basis of mutual trust between all internal and external stakeholders.
Judgment
Engineers and architects shape the world we live in from the courses of action they develop. The HTA-FR aims to develop and promote the power of judgement in its students and staff.
Engagement
Through active participation, the HTA-FR strengthens the commitment and motivation of its employees and students.
