The training for secondary level I was redesigned - in view of curriculum 21 - in 2017. The bachelor's/master's degree program Transverse Entry Secondary I is aimed at prospective students aged 30 and over who have a university degree or comparable training and at least three years of professional experience. The program lasts three and a half years and comprises 210 ECTS credits. It is a part-time course of study. The first year of training takes place as full-time studies at the PH Zurich and in internships. From the second year on, students teach at a secondary school on a paid basis of 30 to 50 percent and study at the PH Zurich in parallel. Prior to the start of the program, students are assessed in an admission procedure to determine their professional competencies. Furthermore, students choose four subjects with the same options as in the integrated Bachelor's and Master's program. Successful completion leads to the "Master of Arts in Secondary Education" as well as the EDK-recognized teaching diploma for secondary level I in the four self-selected teaching subjects. The teaching diplomas of the lateral entry courses for secondary level I (2011H to 2015H) of the PH Zurich were retroactively recognized throughout Switzerland by the Board of the EDK in June 2019. For holders of such diplomas, this means that the cantonal diplomas are automatically recognized throughout Switzerland. This ensures full freedom of movement. Upon request, the General Secretariat of the EDK will issue a confirmation of diploma recognition for a processing fee of CHF 150.

Certified biomedical analysts HF make an important contribution to the diagnosis of diseases and the monitoring of patients' treatments. Using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, they examine body fluids, cells and tissue samples from organs. The human being is the focus of the activity, even without direct patient contact.The laboratory results enable physicians to make correct diagnoses and treat diseases accordingly.The activities include the following main tasks:Analysis of blood, urine, stool, tissue and other body fluids.Examination of patient samples for pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. The training is practice-oriented and is divided into a learning area school (50%) at the BZGS and a learning area practice (50%) in the various training institutions.In the school learning area, knowledge is acquired through practical tasks from everyday laboratory work. The personal and professional attitude is further developed through continuous examination and practice-relevant skills are acquired with targeted, regular training. Independent learning and networked thinking are encouraged. Collaborative learning in groups supports the ability to work together.
